How can I backup my Lotus Notes NSF files?
#1
Hello,
Backing up your data is crucial! If your NSF file gets corrupted or deleted, a backup can be a lifesaver. Here are a couple of ways to do it.
1. Simple Manual Backup
The most basic way is to find the NSF file on your computer and simply copy and paste it to a safe location (like an external hard drive or a cloud storage folder).
Your main NSF files are usually located in the "Data" folder of your HCL Notes installation directory. Look for files like:
  • Code:
    YourUsername.nsf
    (your main mailbox)
  • Code:
    names.nsf
    (your contacts)
  • Code:
    archive.nsf
    (your archived emails)
The Downside: This creates an exact copy, which means you still need Lotus Notes installed to open and view the data in your backup.
2. A Smarter Backup Strategy: Backup to an Accessible Format
A better backup is one you can access anywhere, anytime, without needing special software. This is where the eSoftTools NSF to PST Converter comes in handy as a powerful backup utility.
Instead of just copying the NSF file, you can use it to export your data into universal formats.
How eSoftTools Helps You Create Better Backups:
  • Backup to PST: Convert your NSF to a PST file. You can open this on any computer with Outlook installed.
  • Backup to EML/MSG: Save individual emails as
    Code:
    .eml
    or
    Code:
    .msg
files. These can be opened by many email clients.
  • Backup to HTML: Save your emails in HTML format, which you can open in any web browser. This is great for archiving and easy viewing.
This method not only backs up your data but also makes it future-proof and accessible long after you've stopped using Lotus Notes.
