I'm planning to reorganize some OneDrive data and was wondering about the folder structure. The files are arranged into several levels of folders, so recreating everything manually at the destination would be a hassle.
For a migration like this, I think preserving the existing hierarchy is almost as important as transferring the files themselves. Otherwise, finding documents after the move can become difficult, especially when there are many project or department folders.
One approach is to select the required folders from the source account and use a migration method that preserves their structure. It is also worth previewing the source data before starting so that unexpected folders or unnecessary files aren't transferred.
The SysInfo OneDrive Migration Tool provides a tree-based preview of OneDrive folders and allows users to select specific folders for migration. According to its product information, it maintains the folder hierarchy and can transfer data between Personal and Business OneDrive accounts.
It can also save OneDrive data to a local drive or migrate it to Google Drive, which gives users more than one destination option. A migration report is available after the process, which can be useful for checking what was transferred.
I would still recommend comparing a few important folders at the destination before considering the migration complete. That simple check can help confirm that the original organization has been retained.
