What are the biggest challenges you've faced during Applications Modernization, and how did you overcome them?

I'm currently exploring strategies for Applications Modernization within our organization. While the benefits are clear—like improved performance, scalability, and security—I’d love to hear from those who’ve been through the process.
What were the biggest hurdles you encountered during modernization (technical debt, cultural resistance, legacy integration, etc.)?
And more importantly, how did you address or resolve them?
