Happened: genuinely indoors, credit where due, but climate controlled meant "not 50 degrees inside", not clean filtered air. A fine layer of dust over everything. The cover they sold me at move-in earned its keep. Tyres had a mild flat spot that thumped for the first ten minutes of driving then worked itself out. That's the real trick with long trip car storage: not the monthly rate, the exit terms. Nobody told me anything about registration
My registration expired while I was away. Neither company mentioned this as a thing to plan for, and why would they, it's not their problem. Line up your expiry date against your storage dates before you sign. If it's going to lapse mid-stay, renew early or build the inspection time into your return plan.
Fuel and other small stuff
Told: leave the tank near full. Happened: I left it half, no drama, filled up on the way home and all was well. Take that advice with a shrug either way. What actually mattered: empty the cabin properly. A mate left a protein bar in his door pocket at a different facility and came back to ants. Also switch off any dashcam parking mode before handover, it will eat the battery for breakfast.
Collection day
Told: 24 hours notice, car ready at reception.
Happened: ready-ish. Battery jump, low tyre pressures, and a final invoice showing the extra notice month, which we then argued about for forty minutes in a warm office while my car sat outside collecting fresh dust. Do it in this order instead: settle the final invoice by email before collection day, get the zero balance confirmed in writing, give them three days rather than 24 hours, and inspect the car while their staff are still standing there. * Insurance, theirs and yours, in writing.
* Access terms: lead time to collect, working hours, whether they drive the car out or you walk in to get it.
* Deposit refund timeline. Mine took over two weeks and two chase emails.
What I'd do differently
