I'm in the US and just got a subpoena for financial records from my consulting business. No charges filed yet, but the agents have been chatting with my former accountant. I know this is serious, so what kind of lawyer actually handles this level of heat?

Federal investigations into business finances are a completely different beast from state-level stuff, and the wrong attorney can sink you before anything is even filed. There are plenty of firms out there claiming to do this work, but you want someone who lives in the federal courts and knows how prosecutors build these cases. A friend caught a similar subpoena and told me the worst move is trying to explain the documents yourself over the phone. Agents write everything down, and a casual comment can look like a confession.
