The conversion from OST format to PST format becomes important when there is no access to the initial Outlook profile or in case there is a need to open the OST file separately. In case there is no ability to access the mailbox through Outlook, the use of a special converter will help to simplify the whole procedure.
In particular, I have used GainTools OST to PST Converter software for that kind of work. The entire procedure became simple: added the OST file, looked through the mailbox information, selected necessary folders, specified the destination file and started the export.
After conversion, it is worth opening the PST in Outlook and checking a few emails, attachments, contacts and folders to confirm everything looks correct.
For an inaccessible or orphaned OST, this is a practical option to consider. Starting with the trial version is also a good way to check the conversion before handling the complete mailbox.
